"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters."
My interpretation of this passage goes something like this. The world has its differences but in a way the differences are artificial, though racism exists we are all just humans there is no point for it. Their is a driving force in all of us usually a single emotion thats been our unconscious goal for some its greed, others it may be pleasure, or maybe even hate. All things aside the is really no difference man to man besides appearance and the way their raised.
"You have never really seen an ass until you have seen two sunburned asses on a sandbar in the middle of a river. Nearly all the rest of the body seems to have evaporated. The body is a large red ass about to blister, with hair on one end of it for a head and feet attached to the other end for legs."
I chose this quote because when I was reading the novel I sensed a shift in the way Norman was telling this story. This quote is a perfect example of how good this guys writing really is. it paints a picture so vivid that is sticks with you for several pages after word and gives you a real sense of the pain their going through.
